Valique RAW:Mixed album
This remix album is the child of MySpace I should say. Every mix comes from a friend,
basically they are swaps and my "returns" are mostly out and bestselling by now ;-)
I like that it's an international mixture, covering Europe, States, Australia, all linked up through Russia.
01 Latch (Valique's Boogie Edit) - I felt this track's potential was a little underestimated in the album version. It was a free Afro-touched ride, but I felt there's more to say, especially in the horns. So gave it another dance-floor life.
02. Night Traffic (Roland Schwarz remix) - great boogie treatment of the originally deep-funk track. Roland is an artist with a distinct style of his own, a well-brought child of Parov Stelar's Etage Noir Records/Austria.
03. Where's The Love (Mop Mop remix) - Andrea Benini has recently been my guest while a short stay in Moscow - he truely represents a new generation of Italian jazz, with multiple cross-cultural influences, but still with that Italian style. Here he brings Betty's classics to a different form, making it a smooth ride with a lot of percussion work and a nice twist on harmony.
04. Trouble Girl (Basement Freaks remix) - this guy needs no introduction, Jorge's been one of the most productive Greek producers in recent years, be it a funky mash-up, original track or a good remix. Check out his recent Smokey Bandits album or the great 12" EP "Ya Need The Funky Band" (with Valique swing remix ;) on Sunsetsoul Records.
05. Where's The Love (Da Wiesel remix) - Frequento and Da Wiesel are the names behind Sunsesoul label, they bring a street-funk version of the song, I'd say Fanny Franklin could have done that jam just on the streets of Santa Monica, passing by to get some ice-cream in the corner-shop.
06. Long Journey (TUFF remix) - The Uptown Felaz is something like a Jazzanova of Budapest, already with several releases and Movie Festival prices behind their belts. They were good at catching the spirit of Long Journey, turning it into classical broken beat with elegant jazzy touch.
07. Trouble Girl (Tal.M.Klein remix) - this guy knows how to make fun. An American touch upon Russian work. At first I felt he must have sent me the wrong track, but then I could pick up it was my "Girl", but processed through the disco mind of Tal. Nice one.
08. Out Of My Head (Quasamodo broken disco remix) - Dimitris is the other half of Smokey Bandits, with two albums on Timewarp Greece, multiple remixes and mashes released all over the world, a man deeply devoted to music. Sophie Ocran, the singer on the track loved his work, he gives more tension and uplifts the original, emotionally and musically.
09. Trouble Girl (Omegaman remix) - further into broken beat, this time from down under - Sydney, Australia. Marc Scully aka Omegaman has racked up over 25 years in the music industry with multiple releases on Super Hi-Fi/Catalyst.
10. Night Traffic (Timewrp Inc. remix) - my eased out Moscow version of freed from jams night highways has been turned into a mad night drive across the city. Hey, who's that scratching my car?!
11. Long Journey (Quincy Joints remix) - the groovy funk version at a slow pace from the German producer.
12. Out Of My Head (Chris Bestwick polar remix) - originally from London, Chris lives in Helsinki, plays guitar and composes music. I felt this was a perfect ending to all this broken beat mess, chilling down under the cold sun of Finland.
